The Main Point

This new Decagear VR headset seems like it could be very promising. It manages to have 4k, Valve Index like finger tracking, facial tracking and hip tracking. And  all of this for only $450, which is far cheaper than the Valve Index. This headset could really be the one to save PC VR. Valve even announced that they were helping Megadodo with this headset, so I’m pretty optimistic.

Not many people have heard of Decagear yet. Even I hadn’t until recently. But, more people should definitely know it exists. This headset could definitely be the one to save pc vr. Currently, pc vr isn’t very popular. This is due to the fact that it is quite expensive, if you account for a pc and a headset. Because of this, many people choose to get something like the Oculus Quest or Quest 2, and with the Quest 2 using Oculus Link, you get an experience that basically equals a traditional pc vr experience. And the Quest 2 is just so much cheaper. But, the Decagear is set to launch for $450, and include face tracking, a hip tracker, 4k and Valve Index like controllers. This seems like it will be a great value, so let’s take a deeper dive and see if it’s as good as it sounds.

What is Megadodo?

Megadodo is a small company started by Or Kuntzman that is focused on Multiplayer VR experiences. They are located in Thailand and focused on speeding up the advancement of VR. Decagear is set to be their first product, and they are apparently working very hard to get it out as fast as possible. Valve has also helped them a bit in the development and optimization of Decagear. At one point, Or was the company’s only source of money, but there is now a second investor. They are a team of 19 people, with 17 of them being engineers. Their main goal is to increase the quality of the social experience in vr. I am really excited about what they are going to do, and you can check them out at deca.net.

Features

For $450, the Decagear is going to be feature packed. This headset is supposed to have dual 2160×2160 screens that run at 90hz. It is supposed to have 1098 pixels per inch, so it may be the same screen that HP uses. It will have four inside-out cameras that will be in similar spots to the oculus quest. They claim that it will have sub millimeter precision and sub millimeter jitter in most environments. It will also have two cameras on the inside of the headset for facial tracking. It also comes with two controllers and a hip tracker. The majority of the design of the controller is designed like the Quest touch controllers, including the face and the tracking ring. The handles of the controllers are designed like the controllers of the Valve Index. You put them on with the strap, and then the handles sense how hard you’re squeezing, which should allow you to naturally throw items. They will also be able to track all of your fingers and hand gestures like the Valve Index. Finally, there’s the hip tracker. VR headsets normally don’t know which way you’re facing, so they base it off of where your controllers or head are facing. A hip tracker allows your headset to accurately track the way that your body is actually facing. With all of these things included in this box, Decagear should be a great deal.

Release Date

Decagear seems like it will be an amazing headset. But, it won’t be if it never releases. Thankfully, we already have an expected period for the release of Decagear. According to the Deca site, Decagear’s first batch is supposed to be released in May 2021. This seems like a pretty reasonable release area, as we hadn’t heard anything about this headset until now. On their website, you can currently sign up to receive more info on Decagear for free. You can also lock in your pre-order for only $10. Everyone who pre-orders should receive a headset from the first batch, as long as they order in time. I don’t know about you, but I definitely can’t wait for this vr headset to come out.
