Rogue Company Review: One of my favorites

Rogue Company Main Image

8/10 Great

The Main Point

During our Rogue Company review, we had a ton of fun. This game really is amazing. Some people may think that this is just another Valorant, but it’s not. This game is far better than Valorant, as each character not only has their own abilities, but also their own guns. There are so many cool features in this game, and for the low price of free, it’s definitely worth it.

The Good

  • Crossplay from the start
  • Lots of updates
  • Tons of characters
  • Multiple different modes

The Bad

  • It can be kind of annoying having to be specific characters to use different guns
  • It takes forever to unlock new characters

Rogue Company is a great game. For being free, it has everything that you could ask for, it even has crossplay, so you can play with your friends on other platforms. Not only does it have crossplay, but it is also tons of fun to play and gets quite frequent updates. The game also only launched four months ago, yet it is already nearly bug free. It also has a ton of maps and multiple different modes. Rogue company is definitely one of the best free games out there, and that’s saying a lot.

Characters

When it comes to characters, Rogue Company has a lot of options. There are 13 characters, or, as they call them, rogues, currently available in the game. Judging by how many updates this game gets, it is safe to assume that there will be more added in the future. Each character has two special abilities that are specific to them. These abilities can be very useful in a match, so this is one of the big factors when picking what character you want to main. Each character also has their own specific guns, equipment and perks. Some characters will have a few of the same guns, equipment or perks, but none of them will have the exact same loadout. For example, there is currently only one character in the game that has a sniper, so if you want to snipe, you have to use that character. This can get kind of annoying, because the character that has the gun you want might not have abilities that you like, but that’s just how it works. Also, you start out with only 6 characters, so you have to grind and get 15,000 reputation points to unlock another. This can take a very long time and get quite annoying. During the entire time I played this game for this Rogue Company review, I wasn’t able to unlock a new character. Finally, you can also level up characters. This doesn’t do too much, though, as you can only get cosmetics from it.

Modes

Rogue Company may have one main mode that is quite similar to games like Valorant and CSGO, but that isn’t it’s only mode. You earn money after each round in every mode. Rogue Company has multiple other modes, and they will probably add more in the future, including ranked.

Demolition

Demolition is Rogue Company’s standard and most popular mode. In this mode, there is one team that is trying to plant a bomb, and one that is trying to defuse it. You can win either by blowing up the bomb (if you’re trying to plant it), defusing the bomb(it that’s what you’re trying to do) or (on either team)eliminating the other team. After six rounds, you switch sides. The first team to win 7 rounds wins the game. There are 2 bomb sites, A and B, and the bomb can be planted at either one. At the start of each game, you start with $5,000 each. This mode is heavily inspired by games like CSGO and Valorant. Despite that, this mode is a ton of fun.

Extraction

Extraction is one of Rogue Company’s other modes. As in the first mode, you start out with $5,000. In this mode both teams have the same goal, which is to hack the point, or eliminate the entire other team. The first team to win 7 rounds wins it all. This mode is an interesting and different mode. It may not be my favorite out of the bunch, but it is still a lot of fun.

Strikeout

This mode is my favorite out of all of them. In this mode, each team starts with $12,000, which is enough to buy one of your primary guns. The first team to win three rounds wins the game. This mode is quite similar to a team deathmatch, but it has some differences. The goal for both teams in this mode is to eliminate the entire other team. Each team starts out with 12 tickets, and each time someone on your team dies, you lose a ticket. Also, if you capture the control point, the other team loses five tickets. Once your team runs out of tickets, you can no longer respawn. After a whole team has been permanently eliminated, the surviving team wins the round. This mode is a ton of fun to play, and is a bit more fast paced than the other two.

Shooting Range

In the shooting range, you can test out any character in the game, even if you don’t have them unlocked. This allows you to test out different guns, equipment and abilities. It is very useful when deciding what character you want to unlock next. This mode is also good for just practicing the game. My only problem with this mode is that you have to leave and go back in to change your character. They should make it so that this is just an option in the menu.

Practice Modes

The final mode isn’t really a true mode, but just a different version of the 3 game modes above. You can play a practice match of Extraction, Strikeout or Demolition. In a practice match, you play against a team of entirely bots. The only reason I would ever play this mode is if you are just starting out. Otherwise, this mode is extremely boring because it is insanely easy.

Other Features

There are also a few other features and planned features for Rogue Company. One of them is the shop. In the shop, you can buy skins for different characters, emotes and other cosmetics. The only issue with this is that you have to spend real money to get the in game currency to spend on these items. There are also challenges that you can do. These challenges will give you reputation, which is very useful as it is what you use to unlock new characters. Some challenges will give you more reputation than others, because some are more difficult than others. Also, you can replace a challenge if you don’t want it. The final current feature is leveling up. This isn’t too important of a feature, though. The only thing that leveling up does is give you reputation. They are planning to add a Battle Pass, too, and that will be great.

Crossplay

Finally, one of my favorite things about this game, crossplay. Other games that are similar to Rogue Company, such as Valorant and CSGO, aren’t even available on any platform, other than PC. Rogue Company is different. It has full crossplay between PC and all consoles. This is a huge deal. There are a lot of people that have friends that play on different platforms than them, so they would probably pick this game over competitors. I have Valorant and CSGO, but I never really got into either one. This is because I have a lot of friends that play on console, so I couldn’t play with them in those games. Ever since I got Rogue Company for this Rogue Company review, I haven’t played any of those games. There’s one example of the impact of crossplay. I mean, what’s the point of playing multiplayer games if you can’t play with friends?
