The Main Point

The Oculus Quest 2 now has 90hz enabled, and it is going to be amazing. They just released a new update that allows 90hz to work. 90hz was one of the main features announced for the Quest 2, but it wasn’t enabled from launch. In this update, it was finally enabled, and now we can really see how much better the Quest 2 is than the Quest.

Finally, over a month after release, 90hz has finally been released for the Oculus Quest 2. It has had 90hz capability since launch, they just hadn’t enabled it yet. But now, Oculus finally released an update that enabled 90hz. Any Quest 2 owners are finally able to use 90hz while playing games on Quest 2. This is great, as 90hz is the recommended minimum for VR. What a great time for Quest 2 owners.

How does this improve the Quest 2?

Finally having 90hz enabled for the Quest 2 is going to improve it in numerous ways. First of all, there is an actual reason to get a Quest 2 over a Quest now. Until now, the Quest and Quest 2 both only had 72hz refresh rates. After this update, you can use 90hz on the Quest 2, and now there is no reason to buy an original Quest. 90hz will also possibly reduce motion sickness for some people. On the original Quest, in some games, I will get a headache pretty fast. It is possible that 90hz would allow me to play games in VR for longer amounts of time. You will get much smother visuals while playing and games will just look better in general. Currently, there aren’t very many 3rd party games that support 90hz. Thankfully, though, there will likely be many games that add 90hz very quickly. 90hz will make the Quest 2 more popular than ever.

Other improvements in the update

90hz wasn’t the only thing changed in this update. Oculus also made a few other improvements to the Quest 2. The first and largest of these improvements is new reduced lag technology. This will be great, because lag in normal games is annoying, and in VR, it is even more annoying. Lag in VR causes motion sickness and very bad headaches. So, this new lag reducing tech should be great. The second change is improved UI image resolution. This means that the whole menu will now be higher resolution. That is a great feature, although small, because sometimes it can seem like the Oculus menu is kind of low resolution. These changes aren’t too large, but they will still improve the experience while using the Quest 2.
