SteelSeries Arctis 7 Wireless Review: One of the Best

SteelSeries Arctis 7 review

9/10 Almost Perfect

The Main Point

I had tons of fun working on our SteelSeries Arctis 7 review. This headset really is amazing. The sound quality is really good for a gaming headset, especially considering that this headset is wireless. SteelSeries actually has some really good software, too. I only wish that the mic quality was a bit better

The Good

  • Great Sound Quality
  • Wireless
  • 20 hours of battery life
  • Speaker Hub
  • Mic Turns red when muted

The Bad

  • Mic quality isn’t the best
  • Hard to tell how much battery it has

Gaming headsets are one of the most important parts of any gamers setup. Wireless headsets are much nicer to use than wired headsets, as you aren’t attached to anything. And, in my opinion, the SteelSeries Arctis 7 are one of the best bang for your buck wireless gaming headsets. They have a lot of features, are from a large brand and don’t have a crazy high price. This is one of the best gaming headsets that I have ever tested, and I just had a few issues.

Features

The SteelSeries Arctis 7 wireless gaming headset has a ton of features. This thing is amazing for its price. Most of these features are very good, and that is what makes this headset so amazing. So, here are the features.

Sound Quality

This headset has some very good sound. I have no problem listening to music on the SteelSeries Arctis 7. I can listen for hours without starting to wish that I had some better sound. Most gaming headsets are more focused on hearing the direction of sounds in games. This headset also does that well, but you can listen to music, too. Speaking of directional audio, with the 7.1 surround sound on in the software, you can easily tell the direction of every sound. The SteelSeries Arctis 7 really do have great sound quality for a wireless gaming headset.

Build Quality

These things are built very well. I think that it would take quite a bit to break them. The have a metal headband, removable ear cups and strong design. As long as you aren’t throwing this headset around, or something like that, you should be fine.

Comfort

The SteelSeries Arctis 7 gaming headset is extremely comfortable. I can wear these for hours without having any problems. They have what SteelSeries calls a ski goggle headband. this makes them extremely comfortable, as it keeps your head from touching the metal headband. The earcups are also very soft and comfortable. This is definitely one of the most comfortable headsets that I have tried.

Mic Quality

The mic quality of this headset is one of the few things that I don’t like. It doesn’t sound very bad, but it definitely isn’t amazing, either. It sounds somewhat staticky when talking, and if you try to tune it in the software, you are able to hear yourself in the headset. Mic quality isn’t expected to be amazing on a wireless headset, but I wish that you could at least tune it without having to hear yourself.

Software

I actually really like the SteelSeries software. It is very easy to navigate and instantly recognizes your headset once it is connected. You can easily tune the headsets audio quality with the equalizer that can be found in the software. There are also many presets to choose from for different sounding audio. In the software, you can also enable surround sound and tune your mic, but as I wrote in the mic quality section, mic tuning is annoying. Finally, you can also check the battery life in the software, but not the exact percentage. The SteelSeries Engine 3 software is amazing.

Battery

This headset has a ton of battery life, but this section also brings us to my second issue with the SteelSeries Arctis 7. First of all, SteelSeries claims that this headset has 24 hours of battery life. That is a ton of time, and in my testing, I have found that 24 hours is about right. But, when charging the headset, there is no way to tell how charged it is, unless you have it on. And even when you have the headset turned on, the power button just flashes green, yellow or red. This isn’t too large of an issue, but it annoys me.

Wireless Quality

This headset very good wireless connectivity. It uses this little hub that plugs into your computer using a USB port. Once you connect your headset to this hub, it is good to go. You can also plug a speaker or two into this hub using a 3.5mm jack. This means that when you turn off your headset, your speakers will automatically be on. SteelSeries claims that this headset will stay connected from up to 40 feet away. I am able to use this headset all throughout my house, so I will just have to take SteelSeries word that it can go 40 feet.

Other Features

The SteelSeries Arctis 7 Headset also has a few other features. These include a chatmix dial, which allows you to control the balance between your game, and your chat. This headset also has a volume dial on the back, mic mute button that lights the mic up red when muted and the ability to connect through a 3.5mm audio jack. Finally, the mic retracts back into the headset. This wireless gaming headset really is feature packed.

Pricing

This headset is actually very well priced for all of the features that it has. Some wireless gaming headsets can get very expensive, but the SteelSeries Arctis 7 headset is only $149.99. That is still a lot of money, but compared to some of the other wireless gaming headsets on the market, it really isn’t too bad. And, with all of the features included, I think that this thing is definitely worth it. I don’t like to overpay for things, and I definitely don’t think that you would be overpaying if you purchased the SteelSeries Arctis 7.
