iPhone 13 May Bring Back A Great Old Feature

The Main Point

It is possible that the iPhone 13 may bring back a great old feature that we haven’t seen in years. Yes, that’s right, Touch ID might be returning to Apple’s iPhone lineup. It would be amazing to see Touch ID come back the the iPhone lineup, as Face ID isn’t always the most reliable ( especially while wearing masks.)

The iPhone 12 is a great phone. It has a ton of amazing features, and it doesn’t start at a price over a thousand dollars. But, there is one big issue with it and iPhone’s in general for the past few years. Since the iPhone XTouch ID has been removed from the iPhone lineup. That might be about to change, though, as the iPhone 13 might be bringing back Touch ID. It would be amazing to be able to use my fingerprint to open an iPhone again. I’m not the biggest fan of Face ID.

How do we know this?

This information on the iPhone 13 comes from two former Apple employees. According to the Wall Street Journal, these two former Apple employees say that Apple may give its next iPhone Face ID and Touch ID. This doesn’t mean that Apple will bring back Touch ID for sure, but it does mean that there is a chance. Touch ID coming back would be a great thing. Face ID has never been the most reliable, and masks have just made it even harder for your phone to recognize you. Touch ID has always been more reliable than Face ID, so I would love to see it return. Even if you prefer Face ID, it would still be nice to have Touch ID as an option when Face ID isn’t working. Android phones have kept the fingerprint sensor, so it would be nice to see it return to iOS as well.

How will Touch ID be implicated?

Thankfully, Touch ID will not be a button in a huge bezel along the bottom of the screen. This time, it would be built into the screen like on high end Android phones. Apple may not use the same Qualcomm ultrasonic fingerprint sensing technology that Samsung used in the S21 lineup, though. Instead, Apple may opt for their own optical technology, enabling the phone to read your fingerprint from anywhere on the screen. Apple will not implement this technology, though, if it is not up to the same privacy standards as old Touch ID was. The only reason that we know about this technology is because of a patent from last year that involved this optical sensor. If they do release this optical sensor for Touch ID, that would be really cool, as being able to unlock your phone with your fingerprint anywhere on the screen would be awesome.
