Call Of Duty Black Ops: Cold War Review

8/10 Great

The Main Point

I loved making our Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War review. This is an extremely fun game. The guns are really well balanced, there are a lot of things to do, and it has a pretty entertaining campaign. I just wish that there were a few more maps, and that the Campaign was a bit longer.

The Good

  • Lots of modes
  • Great Zombies
  • Well balanced guns
  • Fun Campaign

The Bad

  • Not very many maps
  • The campaign could be longer

The Call Of Duty series of video games is one of the most popular of all time. And, the Black Ops games in the series are probably the most popular of all. There is now a new edition in the Black Ops lineup, Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. I love Cold War. It is a really amazing game, but it does have few issues that keep it from being the best that it can be. I will be continuing to play this game for a long time.

Multiplayer

The Multiplayer mode is my favorite part of Black Ops Cold War. I think that it is a ton of fun and I love to play it. If you have a friend to play with, the game gets even more fun. I think that the multiplayer in this game is done quite well, but I do have one issue.

Modes

There are a ton of modes in Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Here are all of the modes in the game at the time of writing this: Fireteam: Dirty Bomb, Combined Arms: Assault, Combined Arms: Domination, VIP Escort, Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Face Off, 24/7, Free-for-All, Domination, Hardpoint, Control, Search & Destroy and Hardcore. Hardcore isn’t an actual gamemode, but it is a more difficult version of some of the other modes. Some of these modes can get boring, but there are also a lot of fun ones.

Guns

At launch, there are a ton of guns in Cold War. Throughout the seasons, Treyarch will add many new guns, which will be nice. Currently, the guns in game are very balanced. You can use any gun in the game and do well, as long as you have good attachments. There is also a sense of progression, as you can unlock new gun camos and attachments as you level up each gun. If you want, you could attempt to get a dark matter, which is the most difficult camo in the game to unlock. I enjoy trying to level up different guns and unlock attachments for them. You don’t start out with every gun unlocked, but it is not too difficult to unlock them.

Progression

Cold War also has quite an advanced system of progression. You start out at level one. As you level up to level 55, you unlock new guns. After level 55, you start out at prestige one. Every 50 levels, you go up a prestige. Once you get to level 200, you become a prestige master. You can continue to level up after you become a prestige master, but you can still continue leveling up until level 1000. Each season, your progression will restart. There are a few bonuses to progressing, because after you become a prestige master, you can unlock custom prestige emblems. Overall, the progression system is decent and it definitely doesn’t annoy me.

Maps

Now we are onto my one problem with Cold War Multiplayer. There are not enough maps for 6 vs. 6 ( that is the team size for most modes). The 6 vs. 6 maps include: Express, Raid, The Pines, Nuketown ’84, Checkmate, Garrison, Miami, Cartel, Crossroads, Armada, Moscow and Satellite. This may seem like it is a decent amount of maps, but a lot of these maps are bad, too. Season 2 is releasing soon, so I hope that they will release more with the start of season 2. Currently, there is only one confirmed map for season 2, so I hope that we get more.

Seasons

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War also has seasons. Each season has its own Battle Pass, and it resets your level. Each season has a large update at the start, and a large mid-season update. These updates introduce new maps, modes and guns. I hope that season 2 has some good maps, because we really need some.

Zombies

Zombies is another huge staple of the Call Of Duty franchise. It is definitely one of the most popular modes. Cold War’s version of zombies is quite good, in my opinion. It has some differences compared to older zombies modes, but I think that it can be quite fun.

Maps

In Cold War, Zombies actually has two maps. There is Die Maschine and Firebase Z. Both of these maps are quite fun, but it can be hard to find your way around at first. On my first time playing Firebase Z, I got lost multiple times. Each map has a separate story, and they are both pretty entertaining. If you are playing with others, it isn’t really too difficult to escape, though.

Modes

The Cold War version of Zombies has a few different modes. Each of the modes is quite fun, and they just contribute to how good Cold War’s version of Zombies is. There is also a whole new mode for Zombies that is going to be releasing for season 2. This mode will be called Outbreak, and it seems like it will be a large world version of Zombies. You will have to go around and find loot, as well as do some missions. This mode seems like it will be really cool, and I can’t wait until it releases.

Progression

Zombies also has its own progression system. It has its own separate camos and gun leveling. Some of the camos for Zombies actually look cooler than the Multiplayer camos. You can collect some materials as you are playing. These materials allow you to unlock new things, but I wish it was just a leveling system. Having to collect things from each zombie that you kill can get somewhat annoying.

Campaign

Now, we are onto the Campaign. I love Cold War’s campaign. It is a ton of fun to play, but I do still have an issue with it. This is the first Call Of Duty game that I have played, other than Warzone, so I can’t really compare it to other Call Of Duty game’s campaigns. I do think that this is quite a good campaign, though.

Story

The Campaign of Cold War has quite a good story. The main point of the story is, obviously, the Cold War. This was a period of Nuclear tension between the United States and the Soviet Union (Russia). It is a ton of fun to play through, and it doesn’t really have many problems. You also get to make some decisions about what happens yourself, which makes it even cooler. There are quite a few long cutscenes, though.

Gameplay

The Gameplay of the Campaign is the best part. It is a ton of fun to slide and sprint around destroying AI enemies. Chasing people down is also a ton of fun. You also get to drive many vehicles, and those are a ton of fun, too. I think that they have done a great job with the gameplay of Cold War. I don’t have any issues with it at all, and I hope they continue with this style in the next Black Ops game.

Difficulty Settings

One thing that really adds to the fun of the campaign of Cold War is the difficulty settings. There are a ton of different difficulty options. The difficulty options are recruit, regular, hardened, veteran and realistic. So, there are a lot of options to choose from. When you beat it on an easy difficulty, you might come back later to try to beat it on a more difficult level. It really helps, because this campaign is quite short.

Length

This campaign may be amazing, but the length is my main issue with it. This campaign is sadly only 6 hours long. That is pretty short for a campaign in a AAA game. I wish that it was longer, because this campaign is a ton of fun to play, but that isn’t something that they can change after launch. I hope that Treyarch‘s next Call Of Duty game has a longer campaign.
