Minecraft's New Caves And Cliffs Update Has Been Split In Half

The Main Point

Possibly the most anticipated Minecraft update of all time, the new Caves and Cliffs update has had a lot of hype surrounding it. Sadly, we now know that the update has been split in half, with one half coming this summer, and the other not releasing until Holiday season. I sure hope that it isn’t the caves part that has been delayed.

Minecraft, one of the worlds largest games, announced its huge Caves and Cliffs update last year at their Minecraft Live event. This is possibly the largest update that has ever been released for the game. The size of this update has caused the developers to run into some issues, which sadly means some delays. Caves and Cliffs has been split into two separate updates, with one still coming this summer. The other has been delayed until the end of this year.

Why are they splitting the update in half?

There are many reasons for Mojang delaying half of this update, and they all make sense. First of all, Mojang has run into quite a few issues with developing this update, as they will be increasing the build limit. Not only will they be doing that, but they will also be almost completely changing world generation. These new caves and mountains will completely change Minecraft worlds. Because of this, Mojang is trying to avoid ruining current worlds for players. This means that it will take more time to fully work on world generation to avoid any issues. The second reason is the developers at Mojang. If they tried to get this entire update out by this summer, they would have to work a ton of extra hours. Developers at Mojang are already working from home, which makes things much harder. Mojang says that their developers work very closely together, so working from home would be a huge impact to their workflow.

What will Minecraft add in the first half?

Currently, we do not know how the update has been split. In the coming weeks, we should get some information on what they are going to be adding in the first update this summer. Mojang has said that in this update they are going to be adding, ” come cute and fun mobs, cool items, and new blocks.” These are not all of the things that will be included, but they are some general categories. Sadly, this makes it sound like the revamped mountain and cave generation may be the part of the update delayed until the end of this year. I think that the part of this update the people were most excited for was the new world generation, so it is sad that we will have to wait quite a bit longer to see that. At least the entire update hasn’t been delayed, because there have been a lot of game delays over the past year.
